About True Colors

I do this work because I actually like doing it.

Most painting contractors are salesmen first. I'm a painter first. That difference matters more than you'd think. It shows up in how we approach your walls, how we handle setbacks, and how we treat your home when no one's watching.

How This Started

When I was 26, I did my first painting work. The moment I started—the rhythm of it, the problem-solving, the way a space transforms under your hands—I realized something: this didn't bother me. That sounds simple. It's not. Most people avoid work like painting. I found myself looking for more of it.

But here's what really stuck with me: the repainting work. Coming back to homes and seeing what lasted, what failed, what the homeowner actually noticed—that's where I got genuinely good. You learn fast when you're fixing your own earlier mistakes or seeing what other contractors left behind.

Six years later, I started True Colors. That was over 30 years ago. I'm still here, still showing up, still the same person who gets more interested when the job gets harder. I love what I do. That's not marketing language—it's the reason I wake up and do this every single day.

'I take pride in my work. Not because it looks good. Because I know what went into it.'

— Owner, True Colors

What Three Decades Teaches You

You don't stay in this business for over 30 years because you're good at selling. You stay because you're good at the work and people notice the difference. We've learned a few things along the way.

The right tool matters less than the right mindset. We handle exterior painting, interior work, wood repair, powerwashing, texturing, staining, floor coatings, structure coatings, roof coatings. Whether it's residential or commercial, the principle is the same: we're not rushing through it. We're thinking about what will hold up, what will look right in five years, what the homeowner or business owner will actually feel when they walk past it every morning.

Quality isn't an accident—it's a habit. The difference between okay work and work you're proud of is in the habits you build. How you prep a surface. How you handle the details nobody sees. How you show up when the weather's bad or the scope changes. That's where real craftsmanship lives. That's what people feel, even if they can't name it.

Your reputation is built in the repaints. Any painter can handle a fresh job. It's the comeback—when you're fixing what faded or cracked or didn't hold—that builds respect. We learned early that standing behind our work isn't a promise. It's just the only way to operate.

Working With Us

When you call True Colors, you're not talking to a scheduler. You're talking to someone who does this work. We show up on time. We talk about what we see, not what we want to sell you. We ask questions because we actually care about the outcome, not because we're following a script.

If you're in McAllen and looking for someone who treats your home or business like they're proud of the work—because they are—give us a call. We've been doing this long enough to know what we're doing. We've been doing it long enough to still care about getting it right.
